Beware of SMS and/or e-mail scams

Following recent incidents of "smishing" at various public institutions, such as the impersonation of the names LU-Alert, CNS and CCSS, the Luxembourg government has issued a reminder to the public of the reflexes to adopt when faced with scam attempts in the form of fake SMS messages and/or e-mails:

  • Do not click on unknown or suspicious links!
  • Delete the message if it seems suspicious!
  • Report suspicious messages to soc@govcert.etat.lu!

In general:

  • Always take the time to check the authenticity of any request, e.g. by consulting the official website of the institution in question!
  • Avoid giving out confidential data (login details, passwords, etc.) when asked to do so by SMS, e-mail, chat or telephone!

The government would also like to point out that the authorities do not contact citizens by text message or e-mail to ask for personal data.

You can find all the information you need to protect yourself as effectively as possible against possible forms of fraud on the website: www.bee-secure.lu/kyss.
